Dr Steph Reardon
Veterinarian & Practice Owner
Dr Stephanie Reardon is a veterinarian and co-owner of Jerilderie Veterinary Practice, combining practical country veterinary skills with a genuine love for animals, people, and community.
Originally from Bacchus Marsh, Steph grew up with a strong rural upbringing, which shaped her practical approach to veterinary care and her understanding of the close connection between people and their animals. She completed a Bachelor of Science (majoring in Veterinary Bioscience) and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Melbourne, graduating in 2014. Steph joined Jerilderie Veterinary Practice in 2017 and became a co-owner of the clinic in 2024.
Steph has a particular interest in emergency and critical care and enjoys the problem-solving and fast-paced nature of emergency cases, especially in a rural setting where practical decision-making is essential.
As a practice owner, she is passionate about creating a clinic that feels welcoming, down-to-earth, and easy to trust. She believes great veterinary care goes beyond medicine, focusing on clear communication, compassion, and an understanding of the realities of rural life.
Outside the clinic, Steph is actively involved in the local community and balances practice ownership with family life. When she’s not at work, you’ll most often find her spending time with her young family.
Steph is proud to be part of a practice delivering modern veterinary care with genuine country heart.

Des McRae
Veterinarian
Dr Des Mcrae is the founding veterinarian of the practice, and a much-respected figure in the local community. After graduating with Honours from the University of Sydney in 1978, Des completed an internship at the Sydney University Rural Veterinary Centre, gaining experience across small animal, farm animal, and equine medicine and surgery.
Des arrived in Jerilderie in 1982, where he established a mixed animal veterinary practice that has supported local families, farms, and animals for decades. In 1993, he furthered his expertise by completing his Australian Veterinary College Membership in Equine Medicine. He sold the practice to Steph and Alecia in 2024.
With a lifetime of hands-on experience, Des brings an exceptional depth of practical knowledge across all domesticated animals and is always happy to examine patients and chat through animal health concerns with clients.
Outside the clinic, Des is well known for his love of football and long-standing involvement with the local football club, where he’s been part of the scene since 1983.

Dr Kirby Johnstone
Veterinarian
Dr Kirby is a veterinarian at Jerilderie Veterinary Practice who enjoys the variety that comes with mixed practice and, most of all, the human element that makes the job so rewarding. She graduated from Charles Sturt University with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science in 2017 and joined the JVP team in 2019.
Kirby loves getting to know clients and their pets and enjoys the “mixed bag” of cases that walk through the clinic doors — no two days are ever the same, and that’s exactly how she likes it. She is also the main veterinarian attending our Berrigan and Coleambally branch clinics, where she enjoys building strong relationships with clients in those communities.
Outside of work, Kirby spends much of her time at horse shows and the horse races, and whenever she can, heads back to the family farm in Rand.
